I think in a world where technology is SO huge, we all need to find time to play it "old-school" and do things that let us appreciate each other. No, sitting in front of a TV watching a sports game "appreciating" the players does not count! Playing a game with your family, parents reading a book out loud to their kids, making a craft together, playing outside. All these things are opportunities to have fun with family and remember why you are so blessed to have them. Forget electronics and spend time looking at real people, not at a screen.
This is my little sister Tahlia. She wanted to play Chutes and Ladders with my dad (I think he lost tragically). Instead of watching a movie tonight, she played a game. That's so cool. (It would have been cooler if she had decided not to watch a movie on her own...not by having my mom tell her she couldn't, but that's not the point. The point is she chose to play a board game. So I encourage you all to take some time with your family and play it "Old School" for a change.
I used to read to my kids. I read Huckleberry Finn, The Hobbitt and The Lord Of The Rings to my sons as they grew up, and even now, I read to my wife as she goes to sleep. It's nice to do 'analog' stuff, once in a while.
ReplyDeleteYou are, of course, absolutely correct.
That's so cool LceeL! It really makes a difference to kids when their parents take time to read them a book! Take it from someone who knows! (My mom reads to me and my sisters almost every day:)
